KWIC news of September 14 Andrei Pinkov: Under the guidance of the principle of strengthening its special military troops, China seems interested in importing the advanced special combat equipment made in the Western countries, including the light tanks. A photo showed that the Chinese army launched the QW2 portable SAM from the ASCOD 105mm light tank jointly manufactured by Austria and Spain.

China may have already had the similar tanks or at least the ASCOD light tanks were once tested in China. The source from the Western industrial circle indicated to KWIC that the development of the ASCOD 105mm tanks was targeted primarily at the Asian market.

Due to its weight of 28 tons, the ASCOD 105 mm light tank is not suitable for airborne force. Therefore, if used to serve the troops, this tank is expected to fight in the hilly areas or to increase the mechanized combat capability of the mobile troops or marine corps ( KWIC Andrei Pinkov Report).
