CHINA REVISES NUCLEAR STRATEGIES


The Chinese military is quietly revising its existing nuclear strategies and deployment of nuclear forces has also been readjusted accordingly.

 

Firstly, China’s nuclear strategy has changed from clarity to ambiguity. For a long time since China formally became a nuclear power, China has promulgated the policy of “no-first use of nuclear weapons”, and no changes have been made in China’s legal documents up to the present time. Nonetheless, after 1996, China has for a number of times attempted to impose nuclear deterrence against the US and Taiwan both strategically and tactically.
